Lamborghini SC63 makes its US debut in IMSA GTP class collective test at Daytona

Lamborghini Iron Lynx gave the SC63 Le Mans Daytona hybrid (LMDh) car its debut on American soil, covering over 1,000km and producing the fastest time in the IMSA collective Grand Tourer Prototype (GTP) test at Daytona.

Following private tests in Europe at Imola, Paul Ricard, Almería and Jerez de la Frontera, the Lamborghini Iron Lynx team moved its operations over to the United States, joining its 2024 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship rivals for a two-day test across December 6-7 in Florida.

The car featured a livery specifically designed for the American championship, recognizable by the white central band replacing the 'Nero Noctis' (black) seen on the car dedicated to the FIA World Endurance Championship. From the first day of testing, the SC63 followed the test programme without encountering any significant issues, logging valuable laps that allowed technicians to gather data crucial in order to further fine-tune the car.

A significant indication of the project's maturity was the time of 1m35.027 set on the first day of testing, placing the SC63 driven by Andrea Caldarelli [who drove exclusively on day one] at the top of the official time chart. The car covered a total of 1,150 km over the two days, with Romain Grosjean, Daniil Kvyat, and Mirko Bortolotti subsequently taking turns behind the wheel on the second day.

Lamborghini Iron Lynx now moves to the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas for its second test session in the United States, taking place between December 12-13. This will then conclude the development phase of the SC63 before the car makes its racing debut in the opening round of the FIA WEC season at the Losail circuit in Qatar [March 2]. The IMSA season opener at Sebring, Florida will take place just three weeks after, on March 16.

Giorgio Sanna, Head of Lamborghini Motorsport said: “The Daytona test provided another opportunity to gather data and gain experience with the SC63 in preparation for the upcoming season, especially on a track of such significance in terms of development and Lamborghini Squadra Corse history. There is still a lot of work to be done on the car ahead of its debut, but we are satisfied with the technical progress and the work of the Iron Lynx team and our Factory Drivers.”
