2025 Lamborghini Super Trofeo PRO and Lamborghini Cup Champions Crowned in Malaysia
Charles Leong and Alex Denning clinch PRO championship while Supachai Weeraborwornpong wins fourth career Lamborghini Cup title
SJM Theodore Racing’s Charles Leong and Alex Denning were crowned 2025 Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia PRO champions at Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit having amassed an unassailable points advantage with a round to spare. A second Driver title was decided at the conclusion of round five when two more class victories for Siamgas Corse’s Supachai Weeraborwornpong earned him his fourth Lamborghini Cup title.
Macau squad SJM Theodore Racing also wrapped up the 2025 Team championship title, also with a round in hand.
Macau driver Leong and Irish team mate Denning, both Super Trofeo Juniors this season, took their sixth PRO win of the season in race one from DW Evans GT stablemates Emilien Carde and Malaysian Nazim Azman. Race two saw them clinch the title with a runner-up finish behind the series’ third Super Trofeo Junior driver Ethan Brown. The young Singaporean rookie took his second PRO win of the season, but this time driving solo for Leipert Motorsport.
Race one saw returning two-time champion Chris van der Drift and Australian-Thai FEYNLAB RACING team mate Todd Kingsford take the PRO-AM win, second overall from Carde and Azman, Peter Li Zhicong taking the final PRO podium place to keep his title hopes alive heading into race two. HZO Fortis Racing Team by Absolute Racing’s Haziq and Hairie Oh won the AM class from Delta Garage Racing Team by Absolute Racing’s Umar Abdullah and Dypo Fitramadhan, and Climax Racing’s Li Dongsheng and Li Donghui.
Weeraborwornpong took his fifth Lamborghini Cup win of the season from Lamborghini Bundang by Racegraph’s Gerald Goh and Kim Sangho, and the Batmobile Racing’s pair of Kumar Prabakaran and Shinji Takei.
Van der Drift and Todd took the second PRO-AM win of their debut weekend together with the series in race two, third overall behind winner Brown and newly-crowned PRO champions Leong and Denning. Azman and Carde took third in the PRO class, fourth overall. Second in PRO-AM was another new pairing, Australian Supercars Championship driver Bryce Fullwood making an impressive debut with Climax Racing’s Zhou Bihuang. They were joined on the class podium by Hudson Auto by LKM’s Lu Zhiwei and Ling Kang.
Race two AM victor was True Vision Motorsports Thailand’s Suttiluck Buncharoen, the Thai driver recovering brilliantly from an early-race incident which saw him spun around on track and drop down the order, before mounting a spirited comeback to take the class win. Second in the AM class were Abdullah and Fitramadhan, while HZO Fortis Racing Team by Absolute Racing’s Harith Oh and Aaron Lim also made an impressive comeback from a mid-race technical glitch to finish third in class. Weeraborwornpong clinched the Lamborghini Cup title with another win, this time from Prabakaran and Takei, with Arrows Racing’s Dr. Ma Chi Min taking a class podium after a grueling race driving solo.
The championship now departs Asia and heads to Europe for the sixth and final round of 2025, from November 6-7 at Italy’s Misano World Circuit where the PRO-AM and AM titles will be decided. Topping the PRO-AM leaderboard heading to Europe are Climax Racing’s Liu Kaishun and Cao Qikuan, while Buncharoen has a 15-point advantage over Haziq and Hairie Oh in the AM standings.
The Lamborghini Super Trofeo World Final follows round six from November 8-9, where the teams and drivers will go head-to-head with their counterparts from the North America and Europe series in what is set to be a thrilling conclusion to the season.
Race one
After a close-fought qualifying session to set the grid for race one, where the top eight drivers were covered by just seven-tenths of a second on the 5.543km circuit, it was Lamborghini Bundang by Racegraph’s Peter Li Zhicong who topped the time sheets. Driving solo, the PRO title contender beat championship rival Alex Denning to pole position, while series newcomer Bryce Fullwood took PRO-AM pole for Climax Racing, third fastest overall.
Quickest in the AM class was the sister Climax Racing car, expertly piloted by Li Donghui, while Lamborghini Cup points leader and solo driver Supachai Weeraborwornpong took his fourth class pole position of the season in the Siamgas Corse Lamborghini.
Leipert Motorsport’s Ethan Brown qualified third-quickest of the PRO runners, seventh overall, but a three-place grid penalty carried over from round four saw him start from the fifth row.
As the lights went green, Li made a strong getaway, but Denning launched a furious attack in the SJM Theodore Racing Lamborghini, diving past and snatching the race lead. Behind the pair, Ling Kang had found his past Climax Racing team mate Fullwood to claim third in the order.
As the opening lap action unfolded, the leading five cars were locked in battle, with Z.SPEED’s Massimiliano Wiser quickly gaining ground in P5.
Up at the front, meanwhile, Li was not ready to forfeit his pole advantage, but as he challenged SJM Theodore Racing driver ahead, Ling loomed large in his mirrors. But moments later, it was Fullwood who dived past Ling, the Australian slotting into the miniscule gap behind Li and ahead of Ling and creating a high-speed, precarious concertina. That gave Denning some breathing space up in front, and the Irishman wasted no time in taking full advantage to increase his advantage. Meanwhile, Fullwood’s charge was far from over, and the newcomer next got past Li and set off on the hunt for the race lead.
After 30 minutes of hard, fast racing, Denning had maintained a healthy gap from PRO-AM class leader Fullwood, who led Li, Ling, Wiser, and DW Evans GT’s Emilien Carde. As the pit window opened, Wiser pulled off an astonishing overtake to pass Ling, with Carde wasting no time in following the Italian through and up to fifth. However, Wiser was then penalised five seconds for track limits infringements, the extra time served during his pit stop as he handed over to Z.SPEED team mate Chen Chunhua.
At the half-way point, Delta Garage Racing Team by Absolute Racing’s Umar Abdullah led the AM charge, having snatched the class lead from pole-sitter Li Donghui, with True Vision Motorsport solo driver Suttiluck Buncharoen running third in class. In the Lamborghini Cup, Siam Corse’s Supachai Weeraborwornpong had successfully guarded his pole advantage from Lamborghini Bundang by Racegraph’s Gerald Goh, and Batmobile Racing’s Kumar Prabakaran.
As the second half of the race roared to life, Denning’s team mate Charles Leong resumed the race lead, building on the advantage built by his team mate over a strong opening stint. Zhou Bihuang took over from the impressive Fullwood in second, resuming their lead of the PRO-AM class. Li was in third, despite serving the additional three second stop as a solo driver, but later picked up a 0.6 second penalty for a short stop.
Nazim Azman took over from Emilien Carde for DW Evans GT, and was quickly on the back of Li, the pair door-to-door down the main straight. Former champion Chris van der Drift was on a charge too, having taken the wheel of the FEYNLAB RACING Lamborghini from Todd Kingsford, the talented Kiwi joining the party and waiting to pounce.
As Azman dived past Li, van der Drift pulled a move the inside of the Chinese driver, demoting him to fifth overall. As Azman began piling pressure onto Zhou for second, his challenge was halted when van der Drift caught up to the Malaysian. An epic battle ensued, the pair somehow managing to fight each other hard while simultaneously catching Zhou. As both tore past the Climax Racing driver, van der Drift then dived on the inside of Azman, snatching second and charging off in pursuit of the race leader.
Despite his blistering race pace, van der Drift ultimately ran out of time to close the gap to the triumphant Leong, who took a sixth victory for SJM Theodore Racing alongside Denning, increasing their lead in the PRO championship. Todd Kingsford and van der Drift had to settle for second overall and the PRO-AM win, with Nazim and Carde second in PRO and third overall.
Li claimed the final PRO podium place for Lamborghini Bundang by Racegraph, thus extending the race for the championship into the second Malaysian encounter. Zhou and Fullwood took second in the PRO-AM class in an impressive first appearance together, ahead of SQDA-GRIT Motorsport’s Brian Lee Changwoo and Liang Jiatong, sixth overall.
HZO Fortis Racing Team by Absolute Racing’s Haziq and Hairie Oh took a triumphant AM win after a heroic final stint, taking their third class victory of the season so far. Second were the Delta Garage Racing Team by Absolute Racing Indonesia pair of Abdullah and Fitramadhan, followed by Climax Racing’s Li Donghui and Li Dongsheng. Lamborghini Cup honours went to championship leader Weeraborwornpong from Goh and team mate Kim Sangho for Lamborghini Bundang by Racegraph, and Batmobile Racing’s Prabakaran and Shinji Takei.
Race two
Charles Leong started race two from pole position, the SJM Theodore Racing ace racing for the PRO championship title. However, behind him sat a field of mighty adversaries led by Leipert Motorsport PRO-AM driver Brendon Leitch, with team mate Ethan Brown, two-time former champion Chris van der Drift driving with FEYNLAB RACING, newcomer Nicolas Stati of Lamborghini Bundang by Racegraph, title rival and Stati’s team mate Peter Li Zhicong, BC Racing’s Gavin Huang driving solo, and DW Evans GT’s Nazim Azman.
Off the start, Leong made a good getaway but dramatically ran wide at turn one. Leitch and van der Drift diced it out behind, before the Leipert driver broke free and snatched the race lead from Leong and van der Drift followed him through and up to second. Leong now fell into the clutches of Brown, who wasted no time in charging past and up to third.
Meanwhile, True Vision Motorsports Thailand’s Suttiluck Buncharoen was clipped into a spin by Batmobile Racing Lamborghini Cup driver Shinji Takei. The quick-thinking Buncharoen recovered quickly, firing up his Lamborghini and returning to the fray.
Up at the front, Leitch was pulling away from van der Drift and Brown, while Leong was keeping a train of drivers led by Azman firmly at bay. AM pole-sitter Aaron Lim was running strongly in the class lead until the HZO Fortis Racing Team by Absolute Racing car suddenly slowed with a technical issue. That saw Lim drop right down the order, but the issue righted itself and he threw himself back into the fight, while team mate Haziq Oh took over the AM lead.
Climax Racing’s Cao Qikuan had been running in PRO-AM podium contention until a drive through penalty for a start procedure infringement demoted him down the order.
As the pit window opened, van der Drift had trimmed Leitch’s advantage as he handed over to team mate Todd Kingsford. Lamborghini Bundang by Racegraph’s Kim Sanho was leading the Lamborghini Cup charge, but was given a ten-second penalty for an incident at turn two with Weeraborwornpong.
As the second half of the race got underway, Song Jiajun retained the lead earned by team mate Leitch, with Kingsford in second and Brown the leading PRO class in third despite coming under pressure from SJM Theodore Racing’s Alex Denning.
There was disappointment for Gerald Goh who, having taken the wheel of the Lamborghini Bundang by Racegraph car from AM class leader Kim Sangho, was struck with a technical problem. The stationary car brought out the safety car, closing up the field for what was to be an epic final seven-minute sprint to the flag.
When the safety car released the field, Song rocketed away in the lead, while behind him Todd was immediately under fire from a hard-charging Brown, who made his move and set off after the lead. Brown snatched the lead from Song, with Todd also diving past to take the PRO-AM lead, while the Leipert Motorsport Chinese driver dropped down the order. Next Denning made his move on Todd to take second, the pair making contact in a white-knuckle moment which could have seen the PRO title slip away from the Irishman.
There was also disappointment for AM leader Hairie Oh, the HZO Fortis Racing Team by Absolute Racing driver spun around Climax Racing’s Li Donghui, dropping him out of class podium contention after an impressive run. Li was later handed a three-place grid penalty for the next race as a result of the incident.
The frenetic action continued all the way to the chequered flag, with a triumphant Brown taking the win from Denning who clinched the PRO title for himself and team mate Leong. Todd crossed the line third, taking the PRO-AM win for himself and van der Drift, while Azman and Carde completed the PRO podium, fourth overall. Bryce Fullwood put in another eye-catching stint to bring home the Climax Racing Lamborghini second in the PRO-AM class, with Hudson Auto by LKM’s Lu Zhiwei and Ling Kang joining completing the class podium.
An heroic comeback by Buncharoen saw him take AM honours from Delta Garage Racing Team by Absolute Racing’s Umar Abdullah and Dypo Fitramadhan, while a triumphant Supachai Weeraborwornpong took both the class win and the Lamborghini Cup title.
