Lamborghini Squadra Corse to field experienced GTWC America line-up with K-PAX Racing

18 一月 2021

Lamborghini Squadra Corse will contest its first full season of GT World Challenge America in 2021, with a two-car effort being run by K-PAX Racing, the latest customer in the Lamborghini fold. The California based team, founded in 2007, has run various brands over the years, achieving a total of 59 wins and 148 podiums and is now aiming for title glory with an experienced driver line-up.

Lamborghini Factory Drivers Andrea Caldarelli and Giovanni Venturini join the team alongside double Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America champion Corey Lewis (USA), while K-PAX’s lead driver from 2020, Jordan Pepper (South Africa), remains onboard for the 2021 season. Caldarelli and Pepper will combine forces in the #3 car, with Venturini and Lewis taking the reigns of the #6 car.

Speaking about K-PAX’s prospects ahead of the new season, the team’s Program Manager Darren Law said: “All four drivers are of championship calibre and have the credentials to prove it. Having two Lamborghini Factory Drivers will bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to our program and I have no doubt Jordan will be up to speed quickly. This past season he did a phenomenal job, He is very talented, he is fast and also has great race craft. He proved to us this year that he is the right driver for this program. We are all looking forward to testing and getting the race season started.”

Having steered FFF Racing – of which he is a co-owner – to the GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS overall, sprint and endurance titles in 2019, as well as being part of the triumphant Daytona 24 Hours winning crew last year alongside Lewis, Andrea Caldarelli brings a substantial amount of experience to the K-PAX line-up.

“I’m really excited to race with K-PAX Racing this year in GT World Challenge America,” Caldarelli said. “It is going to be an amazing experience for me to race with such a high-level team. It will be very exciting, but we will have a lot to learn. At the same time, we will definitely deliver great results. I will try my absolute best to offer all my knowledge about the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO, in hopes that we can win this championship.”

His team-mate in the #3, Pepper, is no stranger to the K-PAX fold, having driven for the team during its maiden venture in GT World Challenge Europe last year. The South African, who won the Bathurst 12 Hours in 2020, is eager to get going with the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo.

“When the opportunity came up that K-PAX Racing was going to switch to Lamborghini, Darren asked me if I wanted to join the team and drive – something I could not say ‘no’ to,” Pepper said. “Back in America will be something new for me, but I love the style of racetracks – very old-school and I really have enjoyed the ones I’ve driven. We have some iconic tracks on the schedule, which will make it even more special. I’m really grateful for this opportunity.”

The experience is not just limited to the #3 car though. With Venturini and Lamborghini GT3 Junior Lewis at the wheel of the #6 Huracán GT3 Evo, it is another well-balanced partnership.

“The car will be new for K-PAX Racing but honestly, I don’t see any kind of problem because we set already a lot test days together and with Lamborghini support, we will be competitive already in our first weekend in Sonoma,” said Venturini, who conduct much of the development work on the Huracán GT3 Evo in 2018.

Crucially for the team, American driver Lewis has spent the bulk of his career racing on home soil and has substantial knowledge of many of the circuits on the 2021 calendar.

Lewis also has a full season of racing the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo in America under his belt too and played a big role in helping the brand claim the IMSA GTD Manufacturers’ title last season.

“Being a part of K-PAX Racing is a very big deal with their accolades and history of winning,” Lewis said. “Having this opportunity come together with K-PAX Racing and Lamborghini, a manufacturer I’ve been driving for since 2014, is pretty sweet. I cannot wait to get to work with the team,” said Lewis, who won the Super Trofeo North America championship in 2018 and 2019 with Change Racing.
