Mighty Malaysian contingent to fly the flag amongst glittering 24-car entry

The fifth and final local round of Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia 2025 is set to be a blockbuster edition as the 24-car field arrives at Malaysia’s 5.543km Sepang International Circuit. With all five titles still up for grabs with four races of the season remaining, the stakes could not be higher, while a host of past and future Lamborghini Super Trofeo champions on the grid further raises the ante.

Seven Malaysian drivers, four of whom remain in contention for the 2025 PRO, AM and Lamborghini Cup titles, will guarantee plenty of home-crowd support as the impressive fleet of Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2s battle it out in the searing heat and humidity of Selangor state.

Flying the flag in the PRO ranks is former Asian and European single seater campaigner, 24-year-old Nazim Azman. Azman returns to the series having been forced to miss Korea through a football injury, but is reunited with DW Evans GT team mate, French talent Emilien Carde at Sepang.

Topping the PRO leaderboard heading to Malaysia are SJM Theodore Racing’s Charles Leong and Alex Denning, the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Junior Drivers having taken five wins and three runner-up finishes across the eight races thus far. Their outstanding run has earned them a healthy, but far from unassailable, advantage of 32 points over closest challengers Peter Li Zhicong of Lamborghini Bundang by Racegraph, and BC Racing’s Gavin Huang. After a strong showing alongside regular BC Racing team mate Jonathan Cecotto in Korea where the pair took their maiden victory of the season plus a runner-up finish in race two, Huang will race solo in Malaysia.

Also very much in the PRO title fight is Leipert Motorsport Singaporean and 2025 Junior Driver, 21-year-old Ethan Brown. Brown will be racing solo in Malaysia for the first time this season, having previously partnered with Finn Nikolas Pirttilahti, Jacob Riegel of Germany and Sweden’s Hampus Eriksson.

Making his series debut with Lamborghini Bundang by Racegraph is 16-year-old Nicola Stati, driving solo. The ambitious young Australian talent is currently bounding up the open-wheel career path, having successfully campaigned Formula 4 at home, in Asia – where the gained what will be valuable experience of the Sepang track – and the Middle East. This season he has graduated to the Formula Regional Americas and Oceania championships, and made his European debut in GB3 series last month.

LK Motorsport by Climax Racing’s Liu Kaishun and Cao Qikuan continue to impress in their debut season, maintaining their lead in the PRO-AM title charge. Having clinched a trio of class wins, two runner-up finishes and four pole positions thus far, Li and Cao have a 12-point advantage over reigning AM champion, SQDA-GRIT Motorsport’s Brian Lee Changwoo. Lee took his third victory of the season alongside team mate Liang Jiatong in Korea, and the pair will be back on the hunt in Malaysia.

Hudson Auto by LKM PRO-AM entry Lu Zhiwei and Ling Kang sit fourth on the leaderboard with two rounds remaining, one point ahead of Z.SPEED’s Chen Chunhua. In Malaysia, Chen joins forces with two-time Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia champion Massimiliano Wiser. The experienced and successful Italian driver won the 2013 and 2014 titles alongside China’s Jiang Xin, and makes a welcome return to the series.

Despite only joining the season from round three in Fuji, 2023 Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe champion Brendon Leitch and Leipert Motorsport team mate Song Jiajun are nevertheless in mathematical PRO-AM title contention, sixth in the points, after a win and two podiums in the four races they have contested. Equal on points are BC Racing’s Johnson and Brian Huang.

Storming into the PRO-AM fray in Malaysia is two-time Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia champion Chris van der Drift. The super-quick Kiwi, who took the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia PRO titles in both 2019 and 2023, joins forces with Australian Todd Kingsford at FEYNLAB RACING.

Also joining the PRO-AM ranks in Malaysia is a second car from AM front-running team HZO Fortis Racing Team by Absolute Racing. Malaysian former single seater and A1 GP star Aaron Lim is joined on the team by Harith Oh, younger brother of reigning Lamborghini Cup champions and this season’s AM front-runners, Haziq and Hairie.

Leading the AM title battle is 2018 champion Suttiluck Bunchaoren, the True Visions Motorsport Thailand driver having won twice already this season and earned a further four podium finishes. Those results have earned him an 18-point lead over Haziq and Hairie Oh in the second HZO Fortis Racing Team by Absolute Racing Lamborghini, the Malaysian brothers equal on points with series newcomers Umar Abdullah and Dypo Fitramadhan of Delta Garage Racing Team by Absolute Racing.

Climax Racing’s Li Dongsheng and Li Donghui are just a whisker away however, the Chinese newcomers having won their first-ever Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia race together at the season-opener in Sydney. For Sepang, Climax Racing also enters 2024 Gulf 12 Hours winner Zhou Bihuang of China, who will be racing solo

Triple Lamborghini Cup champion Supachai Weeraborwornpong tops the class leaderboard having never once been absent from the podium this season. The Siamgas Corse driver won the titles in 2016, 2017 and 2023, and currently has a 26-point lead over another local hero, Malaysia’s Kumar Prabakaran. Racing on home turf, the Batmobile Racing driver reunites with Japanese team mate Shinji Takei, the successful pair having debuted together in Fuji. Currently third in the standings despite having only joined the season in Shanghai is Malaysia’s Gerard Goh, who reunites with Kim Sangho at Lamborghini Bundang by Racegraph after their first foray together in Korea saw them take a win and a podium together.

At Sepang, Arrow’s Racing’s Dr. Ma Chi Min joins the Lamborghini Cup ranks from the PRO-AM class where he has been campaigning with Malaysian former FIA World Endurance Championship driver Weiron Tan, the pair having taken a memorable class podium together in Shanghai. Without his regular team mate in Malaysia, Dr. Ma will be racing solo.

Also racing in the Lamborghini Cup class is Kam Lung Racing’s Kenneth Lau, who returns to the series in Malaysia and is joined this time by Mak Hing Tak
