Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe heads back to Barcelona for round three

6 Octubre 2020

For the first time since 2011, the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will host a round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe season, with the title battle evenly poised ahead of the trip to Spain.

The action was frenetic last time out at the Nürburgring as Pro victories were split between Bonaldi Motorsport’s Dean Stoneman - partnered by Kikko Galbiati - and Kevin Rossel and Alberto Di Folco (Target Racing). Miloš Pavlović and Raul Guzman remain atop of the points standings on 49 points, nine clear of Stoneman, though after bagging a pair of valuable podiums. Karol Basz and Andrzej Lewandowski (VS Racing) secured a pair of Pro-Am wins, while Massimo Mantovani (Target Racing) and Hans Fabri (Imperiale Racing) triumphed in the Am and Lamborghini Cup classes respectively.

Pro and Pro-Am

Pavolvić and Guzman are back in action this weekend alongside Stoneman, with the two crews firmly in the hunt for the championship at the end of the year. Fresh from securing their maiden Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe podium in Race 2 in Germany, Oregon Team’s Dorian Boccolacci and Kevin Gilardoni will be aiming to unlock the door to a first series victory in Barcelona.

Having partnered Galbiati at the Nürburgring, Stoneman will be joined by another vastly experienced Super Trofeo and GT3 driver this weekend, in the form of Patrick Kujala. The Spanish-born Finn is a double Super Trofeo Europe champion, having won the Pro title in 2015 and Pro-Am crown in 2016 with Bonaldi.

There are also new additions at Leipert Motorsport and VS Racing in the Pro class. Dane Noah Watt (the son of former Formula 3000 driver Jason Watt) teams up with Sebastian Balthasar, while Alessio Deladda replaces Olli Kangas in the #6 machine.

The weekend will be a special moment for Leipert Motorsport’s Guillem Pujeu Beya, who is competing on home soil in the #69 car. Pujeu Beya, who honed his racing skills in single seaters, is in his first season of Super Trofeo. He will be joined by German Jonathan Jurek.

In Pro-Am, Gerard Van der Horst and Loris Spinelli (Van der Horst Motorsport) and Karol Basz and Andrzej Lewandowski (VS Racing) are expected to resume their season-long battle this weekend, with the two pairings evenly matched on qualifying and race pace.

Am and Lamborghini Cup

Massimo Mantovani holds a comfortable lead in the Am standings following another double class triumph in Germany and could extend well that margin this weekend. Nearest challengers Claude-Yves Gosselin and Giuseppe Fascicolo (Boutsen Ginion) are 20 points in arrears and 10 clear of Leipert Motorsport’s Yury Wagner, who is again partnered by German Fidel Leib.

In the LB Cup, Hans Fabri (Imperiale Racing) and Martin Lechman (Konrad Motorsport) are split by just six points heading into the weekend, but Fabri is likely to extend this margin by the end of the round with Lechman absent this weekend.

Kurt Wagner and Libor Dvoracek (Micanek Motorsports ACCR) suffered mechanical issues at the Nürburgring, with the one-day race format affecting their chances badly. Thankfully, they return for Barcelona and are aiming to make some inroads into Fabri’s points advantage.

How the weekend looks

Race 1 will take place on Saturday 10th with a scheduled start of 14:45. Race 2 is due to start at 10:50 CEST on Sunday 11th. Both races, which include a mandatory pit-stop, last for 50 minutes and are streamed live on the Squadra Corse YouTube channel and Facebook page.
