Automobili Lamborghini’s record year
Automobili Lamborghini is aiming to close its best year ever, after nine months of record numbers and a steady growth trend, including the farewell to the “pure” V12 combustion engine in view of the hybridizing of the entire range by 2024.
Deliveries from January to the end of September reached 7,430 units (+8% over the same period in 2021), with the target markets now confirmed to be the United States (+8%), Greater China (+5%), Germany (+16%), the United Kingdom (+20%) and Japan (+26%). Turnover and operating profit also showed significant increases in the first nine months: turnover reached 1.93 billion euros (+30.1%), and operating profit stood at 570 million euros (+68.5%). The increase in profitability was driven by higher volumes, growth in average revenue per car (thanks to the product mix and increased customization), and favorable exchange rates.
Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, commented: “These steadily growing numbers show just how strong Lamborghini is today. We have an order backlog that already covers the first quarter of 2024, and this allows us to work calmly, looking attentively at the challenges that lie ahead, such as the first step towards hybridization starting in 2023.”
Among all the models, Huracán showed the strongest growth, an impressive 2,378 units delivered globally and an 11% increase over the same period last year. In absolute terms, however, the real sales record was made by the Urus, with 4,834 units delivered between January and September (+7%), the highest number of Super SUVs delivered in the first nine months since its debut in 2018.
While the iconic V12 model, the Aventador, has reached the end of its production cycle, there have been numerous initiatives in 2022 aimed at celebrating the farewell to the internal combustion engine, from the commercial launch of the Huracán STO to the debut of the Huracán Tecnica, the restyling of the Urus Super SUV with the Urus S version and the high-performance derivative Urus Performante. The final farewell will take place at the end of the year at Art Basel in Miami, with an off-road version of the Huracán, a model destined once again to amaze and leave its mark on the world of super sports cars.
