Automobili Lamborghini kicks off the year of complete hybridization by celebrating the technology that has enabled the automotive giant to get to where it is now: the iconic naturally aspirated V12 engine.

Generally recognized as one of the most sophisticated powerplants, the V12 engine began to make automotive history in 1963 when Ferruccio Lamborghini mounted Giotto Bizzarrini’s extraordinary creation on the first Lamborghini, the legendary 350 GT. Bizzarrini created a racing engine that Ferruccio Lamborghini later turned into a production engine, starting a new era of super sports cars. A modern version of the naturally aspirated V12 engine was created for the Aventador in 2011, debuting an enhanced version of the iconic powerplant that maintained the original technological concepts.

“The Lamborghini story was born with the V12,” remarked Maurizio Reggiani, former Chief Technical Officer at Lamborghini. “In the 1960s, the V12 represented the pinnacle of technology, luxury, and sportiness.”

The Lamborghini Aventador was the last model to feature a pure naturally aspirated V12 engine; full hybridization for the company will commence in the first quarter of 2023. Continue to follow Automobili Lamborghini for a new chapter of automotive history.
