As the 30th anniversary celebrations of the Lamborghini Diablo draw to an end, we asked digital artist Chris Labrooy to interpret the 90s icon in one of his dreamlike creations.

The first Diablo came to life from the drawings of Marcello Gandini as a work of art in addition to being the expression of extraordinary engineering achievement. Who better than an artist, then, can pay tribute to the Diablo today, on the 30th anniversary of its creation?

Chris Labrooy is a master in reinterpreting the most iconic car models, thanks to fantastical images created using computer graphics. A graduate of the Royal College of Art in London with a specialization in product design, he began right from the start to exploit the potential of 3D technology, applying it to exciting creative experiments. His almost 200,000 followers on Instagram are amazed at his playful, dreamlike imagery, in which cars become the protagonists of adventures on the edge of reality: animated, modeled as if made of chewing gum, suspended in the air like spaceships. Or just leaving an ideal paint shop, like this yellow Diablo. So, the super sports car that at its debut excited car lovers for its speed and charisma continues to amaze us with special effects. And to remind us to live the dream.

In the artist’s words…
“The invitation from Lamborghini to create an experimental paint scheme for the Diablo was very exciting. I was 10 years old when the car came out and I had a very healthy Italian supercar obsession at the time. For this project it was important to start with the traditional ‘Lamborghini yellow’ as the predominant color and then apply interesting alternate colors to the different body panels. Pink is an important color in my work as it is disruptive to traditional masculine automotive perceptions.”
