The aerodynamic lines of the Huracán EVO RWD glimmer under the moonbeams of the skylight designed by Shinichiro Ogata. The Japanese master of design tells us about his philosophy, between simplicity and luxury, and his passion for cars.

Shinichiro Ogata, creative director and founder of the Simplicity design studio, integrates Japanese tradition with a sensual and contemporary approach to materials. He was involved in the creation of a garage with an extraordinary design for the Hotel Almhof Schneider, a five-star mountain resort in the Vorarlberg region of Austria.

Here, the cutting, aerodynamic lines of the Huracán EVO RWD stand out like features of a feline under the night sky because in the underground structure that accommodates up to 54 automobiles, the harmony of nature is the key concept. Among the elements created by the Japanese designer, the Lichtkuppel, the skylight that recalls the moon and forest, stands out for its evocative power.

I focused on the idea that both Austria and Japan have a common history, that we have been coexisting with nature by recycling forest resources based on the lunar calendar,” explained Ogata. “I was surprised at the many similarities between the two countries, such as having a high level of awareness towards trees and forests and wisdom on tree felling on new moon day. Tradition says that those trees last long. So I started from putting the concept on the act of ’reading the moon,’ which has been fundamental to the relationship between the moon and nature since ancient times, and drew an image that would become the concept flow. It is an image of the organic ridges of the forest illuminated by the moonlight twinkling softly in the darkness, gently enveloping nature. The moon is likened to a skylight and the ridgeline is likened to an exterior wall. Actually, the skylight is designed in such a way that the moonlight gently envelops the space.

Ogata’s projects are not just projects but true cultural productions, intent on spreading the quintessential Eastern balance between yin and yang, between urban life and nature, between minimalism and expressive richness. Simplicity is the basis of his interpretation of spaces, but to our eyes the result is pure luxury.

In his reliance on impressive know-how, in the perfection of his products and his ability to evoke deep emotions in his customers, Ogata is in perfect harmony with Lamborghini. “I’m a big car lover. I own several vintage cars. Every day I drive an SUV, a sedan, or a sports car for both work and personal use,” he confirmed. Before saying goodbye, we asked one last question: What is your next goal? “I want to be an originator of culture. I want to create a place for education in the future.
