William Tregurtha leads PRO pack with Batmobile Racing ahead of crucial clash

The majestic peak of Japan’s most sacred mountain provides the stunning backdrop to the third round of Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia 2026 at the iconic 4.563km Fuji International Speedway from June 19 – 21.

Leading the PRO charge after two of six rounds, which have seen the intriguing international line-up in the mighty fleet of Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2s contest races in Malaysia and China, is Batmobile Racing’s William Tregurtha. The 26-year-old Briton holds an eight-point advantage over closest rivals Liam Sceats of New Zealand and Poland’s Gustaw Wiśniewski of Vincenzo Sospiri Racing (VSR), the young duo’s combined age just 38 years.

Tregurtha burst onto the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia scene with a decisive PRO victory driving solo in his first-ever race at the season-opener, following that up with a class podium in race two. For round two in Ningbo, Tregurtha was joined by exciting Monegasque driver and series regular Jonathan Cecotto, also 26, where the newly-formed partnership blasted to two overall victories. The formidable pair reunites at Batmobile Racing in Fuji and will be looking to replicate that success, and increase their points advantage ahead of the season’s half-way point.

However, Sceats and Wisniewski will be snapping at their heels, as will Lamborghini Bundang by Racegraph’s Peter Li Zhicong, currently third on the PRO leaderboard. The experienced Chinese driver has so far taken three PRO podium finishes in four races alongside American team mate Titus Sherlock. Last year Li won the opening race in Fuji, proving a potent force at the challenging 17-turn track, and making him one to watch this time around.

Mighty PRO-AM duo Chris van der Drift and Todd Kingsford arrive in Japan as hot favourites, the VSR pair’s run of class victories so far unbroken.  Seeking to halt their charge in Japan will be Batmobile Racing’s young Lamborghini Super Trofeo star Putera Mu’azzam and experienced Lamborghini Cup contender Kumar Prabakaran, both flying the flag for their native Malaysia.

An exciting addition to the PRO-AM ranks in Japan are season newcomers Yoon Jeon of Korea and Indonesian Umar Abdullah as SQDA-GRIT Motorsport makes a welcome return to the championship. Abdullah made his series debut last season alongside fellow countryman Dypo Fitramadhan, finishing fourth in the AM standings together. SQDA-GRIT Motorsport, meanwhile, took a memorable AM title victory with Brian Lee Changwoo in 2024, narrowly missing out on the PRO-AM crown with Lee last season by just two points.

This year’s AM battle resumes in Japan between reigning champion Suttiluck Buncharoen of True Visions Motorsports Thailand and title challenger Bertram Lau of KAM LUNG Racing. Both driving solo, so far Buncharoen has the edge, having pulled a ten-point advantage after earning points for a trio of class wins. However, with eight races of the season remaining, Lau will keep the seasoned campaigner on his toes all the way.

It’s also tight at the top of the Lamborghini Cup standings, where reigning champion Supachai Weeraborwornpong heads the table after three wins in four races. However, a DNF in Ningbo means Lamborghini Bundang by Racegraph’s Gerald Goh and Terence Tse sit just eight points adrift.

Absent from the Ningbo rounds, Lamborghini Busan by Racegraph’s Steven Chian returns to the fray in Japan, eager to make up the points, while the team enters a second Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2 for Japanese driver Yugo Tanabe. Tanabe raced with the series last season at South Korea’s Inje Speedium, and makes a welcome return to the Lamborghini Cup ranks.

Nestled in the foothills of Japan’s highest peak and the country’s most iconic active volcano, soaring 3,776 metres above sea level, Fuji International Speedway first opened in 1966. A former Formula 1 Grand Prix venue, today the track regularly hosts numerous prestigious championships, its challenging layout and 1.475km main straight popular amongst drivers the world over.

Two hour-long free practice sessions open Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia round three on Friday, June 19. Two 15-minute qualifying sessions on Saturday morning set the grids for each of the two 50-minute races, the first of which begins at 13:15 the same day. Under the watchful gaze of Mount Fuji, the race two drama is set to erupt at 13:45 local time on Sunday, June 21 (all times (UTC+9).
